The Enchanted Files: Diary of a Mad Brownie Audiobook by Bruce Coville
Multi-voiced narration by Euan Morton and ensemble cast (2015)
Earphones Award
Told in diary entries and other "documents," this magical, modern-day comedy by the master of funny fantasy Bruce Coville is a story filled with laugh-out-loud humor and heart.
Angus is a brownie—no, not the kind you eat! He's a tiny magical creature that loves to do chores. Angus has just "inherited" a new human girl, Alex. To say that Alex is messy would be an understatement. She's a total hurricane-like disaster—and she likes it that way, thank you very much! Living with each other isn't easy, but Angus and Alex soon learn there is a curse that binds them. What's worse, it threatens Alex's family! Working together, Angus and Alex will set out to break the curse... without killing each other first... hopefully.
Critical acclaim for the narration
AudioFile Magazine awarded Diary of a Mad Brownie the Earphones Award, praising Euan Morton's performance:
"Presented with a full cast, this story is a delightful romp from Scotland to Connecticut via the Enchanted Realm with Angus Cairns, a curse-carrying brownie. Euan Morton, as the kind but fiery-tempered brownie, steals the show with his heavy Scots brogue and animated dialogue. Morton's comic timing is perfect for Angus's wry observations of his new life in the relatively unenchanted United States."— AudioFile Magazine (Earphones Award winner)

Narrators
Euan Morton voices Angus Cairns, the fastidious Scottish brownie with a fiery temper and a love for cleanliness. Morton "steals the show with his heavy Scots brogue and animated dialogue," bringing Angus's wry observations and comic timing to life with his native Scottish accent.
Nancy O'Connor (age 13 at time of recording) voices Alex Carhart, the messy 11-year-old girl who is Angus's worst nightmare. Her perky, authentic performance perfectly captures Alex's personality.
The full cast also includes Amanda Carlin, Scott Sherratt, Joe Scalora, Tavia Gilbert, Matt Hostetler, and Arthur Bishop, who bring to life Alex's family, friends, teachers, and other characters through dialogue, letters, and supplementary messages that make up this diary-style story.

Critical Praise
Booklist (starred review): "It's not easy to merge such disparate elements as traditional Scottish lore and modern American life, but Coville brings it off with wit, style, and respect. The first volume of the Enchanted Files series is smart, amusing, and a lot of fun."
School Library Journal: "A humorous, quick-paced, and engaging tale. Human and magical characters are likable with characteristics that readers will recognize. This is a fresh and fast tale that is sure to elevate the standing of brownies, goblins, and other magical beings."
Kirkus Reviews: "A knee-slapper."
Publishers Weekly: "Coville infuses Angus's diary entries (as well as interspersed letters, poems, curses, text messages, etc.) with humor and heart, creating a lovable, altruistic, and slightly grumpy hero in Angus and a determined sidekick in Alex. With magic, mischief, and mayhem to spare, this sweet story of an unlikely friendship ought to delight readers of any age."
